Reviewers and readers have repeatedly noted how thin the underlying idea is once stretched across a full book, padded by repetition that could have been compressed into an essay, and some have pointed out the awkward origin story: Robbins frames the theory as her own discovery despite crediting her daughter with coining the phrase and despite a poet having published similar language years earlier. The harder critique is conceptual, 'let them' works fine for minor social friction but offers little guidance once applied to situations involving real harm or power imbalance, where letting go isn't actually a neutral act.
